Shalaka is an accomplished theater, TV and film actor with over 20 years of experience. She has directed 8 plays in Singapore and represents Anupam Kher's acting academy Actor Prepares here in Singapore.

About the book
Shivali and Kumuda will be speaking about their recently launched book on Indian Folk Art. A tapestry of different ideas, motifs, paints and histories, the different folk arts of India have contributed to and influenced the aesthetic heritage of people across South and South East Asia, and have therefore earned their place in the cultural consciousness of Singapore.It is this aspect of visual art that Singapore – based artists Kumuda and Shivali promote.

Through an examination of different folk arts across India, Kumuda and Shivali have created the prism with which to view and understand the history and influence of these form of art with Singapore and South East Asia as the vantage point. With their unique experience and understanding of the genre, the authors create a nuanced vision of the universal appeal of these arts for a diverse audience.

About Kumda & Shivali

Kumuda & Shivali are contemporary artists who have a passion towards art and its ability to unite people around the world and as a means to discover true happiness within. They have been following their passion since childhood. After collaborating together for a number of years, they co-founded Strokearts Studio in Singapore in 2014.

Both artists have been creating an awareness and appreciation for Indian folk art painting showcasing the influence of the rich and vibrant folk art painting styles from different regions of India. They have been conducting workshops, exhibitions, specialized art classes, lectures and demonstrations in Singapore for a number of years.
